Kirsty was a wonderful young woman with a bubbly personality, fantastic sense of humour and who would do anything for anyone even to the point of giving away her last penny.
In November 1999 she became unwell and her GP initially diagnosed an asthma related problem as Kirsty had previoulsy had very slight asthma, then soon afterwards he decided she had gastro enteritis. However, it was actually the beginning of terminal heart failure.
On 15 January 2000, Kirsty underwent heart transplant surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The operation was a tremendous success and we are forever grateful to the young man who had registered on the Organ Donor Register. It was a tremedous relief that a heart had been found, but also there were a lot of feelings for the young man that had lost his life and for his family. We still think about him.
Kirsty was soon back at school and sitting her GCSE's. In May 2001 Kirsty suffered a stroke and was back in Great Ormond Street where we were told the prognosis wasn't good. However, Kirsty being the fighter she was, upon being transferred to Southampton in order to be closer to home in Havant, embarked upon yet another fight.
She recovered very well but had to learn to write all over again, this time with her left hand and had to have speech therapy. Before she was discharged from hospital in Southampton, Kirsty attended college in Havant.
Sadly, in February 2002, Kirsty suffered a heart attack and sadly passed away at just 16.

Kirsty
Kirsty showed everyone around her how to be strong, she needed to show us as she knew deep down that one day we would be without her, and we had to have the courage and strength that she did to go on.
Well as another Chrsitmas approaches, and another year draws to an end, we are all reminded of that strength and we all draw from that strength in order to celebrate without her.
Kirsty loved Christmas, all the present wrapping, the tree was a delight that she and her brothers took on every year to dress, and every year added things that they had made. I know she would be delighted to know you can now have baubles shaped like shoes and handbags as well as angels galore in many different colours and poses.
The tree I bought for her 5 years ago and was only 8 inches high is now a lovely 20 inches tall and is ready for this years decorations to go on as well as some lights as its a bit bigger.
I know she watches over us, and will know she will love the tree and how it has grown.
Enjoy Christmas Kirsty, you have so many of your friends from GOSH with you now, and I take comfort that you are not alone.
Love always and forever
Your mum
